IN RECOGNITION OF WHEREAS, by fulfilling this life long dream, Jimmie D. Webb brought joy and happiness to many people, young and old, who bought and learned to play the many instruments he offered at a fair and reasonable price; and WHEREAS, Jimmie D. Webb was ready for the dramatic changes the Ed Sullivan Show brought To the American Music scene with the introducation of the Beatles in the early 1960's; and WHEREAS, while Jimmie D. Webb faced these changes, and the growing demand, he continued in this effort to offer the gift of music through his instruments and services at a fair price; and WHEREAS, Jimmie D. Webb strived to work closely with the Antioch Unified School District's band departments, helping to ensure those students interested in music would not be denied the opportunity to partcipate; and WHEREAS, working at his store during the day; and, perfecting his Webb Guitar Amplifier by night, Jimmie D. Webb produced what has long been regarded by the mover and shakers of the music industry to be the finest amplifier in the world; and WHEREAS, while Jimmie D. Webb created these works of art by hand in the little wood shop behind the Webb Music Center, they can now been seen in music venues, such as the Grand Ole Opry; and WHEREAS, Jimmie D. Webb recently closed his store and is now retired, this unique and gentle man will live on forever, in the music he created through the many students he supplied and through the amplifier he has given the music industry. NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD P. FREITAS, Mayor of the City of Antioch, do hereby recognize JIMMIE D. WEBB, as an outstanding citizen and member of our community and thank him for sharing his musical talents with the City of Antioch and the world. DATED: March 11, 2003 |
