The Echoplex gained immense popularity and fame back in the ‘60s and ‘70s for its authentic echo reproduction when used by many famous recording guitarists. As one example of its use, check out Curly Chalker playing “Gentle on My Mind” here. Many other steelers discovered how it also projected the warm and sweet sounds that pleased them and their listeners, whether heard at concerts or listened to on many great recordings. It has been brought back in digital form today in the Dunlop Company’s EP-103, and at a much lower cost than in those past decades.
If you thought reverb was a winner, adding this delay effect, with nearly instantaneous voicings all the way up to four seconds of delay, gives new meaning to the word “sustain.” [Hey, few are going to add four seconds of delay to their performances, but it can be dialed in if necessary for whatever you want to do with your sound.]
